Your charity makes a difference in the world and changes people's lives. We help you to increase your income and impact.

We have worked with over 100 charities, providing strategic and operational support in relation to income and impact. Strategic support has included a range of projects such as strategy development and strategic reviews as well as providing advice, analysis, research and facilitation to support management and boards with decision making. Operational support has included a range of practical tasks, including developing compelling cases for support, better demonstrating impact and writing funding bids, with over £25 million raised.

Increasingly we are providing our clients with an integrated service that offers practical support at both a strategic and operational level. The description of services on the website will be updated to reflect this in due course but in the meantime you can e-mail us to find out more.

On our website you can find out more about our work; a full client list with case studies and testimonials; and the learning we share through our podcast, articles, events and reports.

What is KEDA Consulting?

KEDA Consulting is the company established by Alex Blake in 2013, to help charities and other social impact organisations to increase their income and impact.

What type of organisations do you work with?

Clients are most commonly small to medium size charities (73% have income under £2m), working in the UK to improve the lives of people facing various types of disadvantages; while some clients have a focus that doesn’t include front line services and some are much larger.

Our clients include charities, CiCs, and other social impact organisations. While we enjoy working on a range of causes across sectors, the key theme is to support people facing disadvantage and injustice. Most of our clients are UK focussed, although we have worked with some international NGOs.

You can find a full client list, case studies and testimonials on the Clients page.

Who delivers the work?

Alex Blake is our sole consultant and works with our clients to increase their income and impact.

Where clients request support in other areas, we have a strong network of individuals and organisations in the sector that we can make introductions or signpost to.

During 2014 to 2021, we worked with a number of talented associates and staff to deliver support to our clients and we thank them for their service.

What is your experience of helping charities to increase income and impact?

We have worked with over 100 charities, providing strategic and operational support in relation to income and impact. Alex has been the lead consultant for the majority of these clients and has delivered a range of strategic consultancy and operational support as described on our service pages. Alex has now raised over £35 million, as well as achieving a wider impact through strategic consulting and advice.

Prior to becoming a consultant, Alex began his career in the charity sector as a fundraiser, successfully raising over £10 million with roles at St Christopher’s Hospice, ORBIS International, WaterAid and the National Autistic Society. These roles helped to develop skills in strategic thinking, problem-solving, bid writing, project design and management, relationship building and communication.

In addition, Alex holds voluntary roles on charity boards and committees; shares learning through his podcast, events and articles as well as leading sector publications and conferences; and holds certifications including PRINCE2 Practitioner, Fundraising Management, BA in Business Management and full membership at the Institute of Consulting.

When I took up my post as Director of Fundraising at Contact a Family, KEDA had been supporting our fundraising for 5 months. I was very impressed by the amount that had been achieved in that time and the quality of the work. Not only had KEDA been focused on delivering income, they had made significant progress in developing much needed systems and processes. In my many years as a Fundraising Director I have rarely seen such positive impact from external fundraising support. I commend them to you highly.

The Inge Wakehurst Trust is a registered charity established for the benefit of those affected by autism and Asperger syndrome. I am chairman of the Trustees. Alex Blake has been providing the administration services for the Trust on behalf of The National Autistic Society for a few years. He has provided these services, which include secretarial and financial matters, with skill and efficiency. I am very impressed by his ability to coordinate the various functions required, such as organising and recording meetings, corresponding on behalf of the Trust, dealing with the accounts and the Charity Commission etc. He is also knowledgeable in the field of autism and makes a useful contribution to our Trustee meetings. I can thoroughly recommend him to anyone who uses the services of KEDA Consulting.

Alex recently worked with CAF on an assignment working with an up and coming youth mentoring charity. He successfully co-facilitated an Away Day with the charity, presenting market and competitor analysis and facilitating group discussion around future strategy, as well as undertaking follow up prospect research. The quality of Alex's work on this was excellent in helping to ground discussion in the realities of the external environment and in keeping participants focused. I'm happy to recommend Alex's services to others.

  • Caroline Hattersley
I commissioned KEDA Consulting because I know Alex has the ability to clearly articulate what can seem like complex impact reporting frameworks and evaluation methodologies, using plain English and real life examples. Alex has an engaging style that is well suited to working with service staff who are not familiar with the terminology used by funders and fundraisers.

As Chairman of the the Board of Trustees for the Toby Henderson Trust I would like endorse the work of Alex Blake from Keda Consulting. Alex is responsive, straight talking and clearly good at his job. I was relatively new to being a trustee when Alex first started and I was skeptical. However, everyone in the trust knew we had to be more proactive with our fund raising so we made a commitment to Alex for a year. He gave us a sensible plan of action that was financially doable and worked closely with our Project Director to identify the best possible sources of support before starting to research and make applications. A year later Alex has brought in twelve times the amount we invested in his services and we still have 17 outstanding applications that we have not yet heard back from. The largest contributor he found last year is funding the rent for our building for three years, I think that speaks for its self.

I wanted to send a quick email to let you know how brilliant Amy has been over the last few months.  With supporting the team here to get up to speed with Trusts and providing advice and insight where needed; writing applications and continuing to research new ones; helping with planning and budget work and generally being an ear for me when I need it; I cannot thank her enough.  She’s an asset to KEDA and here at Bliss we are so grateful for her continued experience and professional advice and support. This was really bought home to me today and it prompted me to write this!  I tell her how much we appreciate her all the time but wanted to make it more official, she really is fab!

It’s been really helpful in helping establish where there are potential opportunities for us that we have not yet explored. You’ve been clear in your communications and delivered to the timeframe we talked about, which is always appreciated!

KEDA were an invaluable support in helping us define and move forwards the next steps for our fundraising strategy. We had recently been going through a strategic review of activities, and had no internal fundraising expertise or resource. KEDA filled the gap and lent us their expertise, making the whole process of agreeing a direction and finding the right support so much quicker and easier than it ever would have been without them.

I have always found Alex and his colleagues at KEDA to be friendly, helpful, informed and efficient. They have a wide-ranging knowledge of the range of funders (and their requirements) out there and a good sense of the needs of a small charity like ours. Their gift is being able to tie those two things together in well-written (and often successful) bids.

KEDA are really easy to work with, and know the sector really well.  When capacity is an issue they have been so helpful in getting stuck in and helping us like part of the team to support us in our Trusts fundraising.  I really liked the COVID-19 briefings you did, they were so helpful especially so early on in the crisis.  I think picking up common challenge/opportunity topics like this and sharing some sector information is a real added value to the direct work you do with clients.
